The San Jose City Council will consider the definition of “parkland”. Use the form below to ask the Council to take action to ensure that the definition of parkland our parks, both current and planned, plus public golf courses used by seniors and children.

Your email will ask the Council to save and protect our parks, both current and planned, plus public golf courses used by seniors and children. Parks are important to the residents of San Jose across the city. Rich or poor, young or old, regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, or ability: parks are important to us all for our physical health, our mental health, and the health of the community.

Your email will ask the Council to support chartered parks and include protection to parks not yet developed for lack of funding. There are planned park sites that are still awaiting funding.

Our public lands currently used as recreational golf spaces used by children and seniors must also be protected. Your email will ask the Council to protect this public opportunity.

To this end, Your email will ask the Council to ensure the following lands are protected:

  1. The City owns the land (fee title) or has unrestricted access through an easement in perpetuity, and
    a. The land has been (or is planned to be) improved with recreational or park amenities, whether passive or active, AND/OR
    b. The land is (or is planned to be) open to the public for public park purposes.
  2. The land is currently used as a public golf course.

Lastly, your email will ask the Council to also direct staff to plan for any Charter amendments necessary to fully accomplish this. Let’s Protect Our Parks.
