GENERAL UPDATE: On October 6th, the VTA unilaterally proposed to the Silicon Valley Rapid Transit Program Working Committee the elimination of the Alum Rock BART station. VTA has now indicated that the Alum Rock Station at 28th Street will be included in the forthcoming environmental document for Phase 2 of VTA’s Extension of BART to Silicon Valley. However, this including the Alum Rock Station in the environmental review does not indicate an agreement to include the Alum Rock Station in the actual application. While we’ve had assurances from VTA that the BART station at 28th Street is back in the plans–subject to review along with the other stations–VTA needs to know that the community demands a station accessible to the Eastside, fulfilling promises made and respecting the work of the community on the urban village plans above and surrounding the Alum Rock 28th Street station.
